A Day in the Life

I used to have a "real" job.  You know, one where you have to set your alarm, get dressed up, drive somewhere, sit there for about 8 someodd hours and then drive home.  Now that I'm a mom, I no longer have a "real" job, but I feel like I am even busier than someone who does.  That's because I am now babysitting 4 other kids besides my own.  I know, I am crazy!!  Let me explain...

Last year I babysat for a sweet little girl whose mother is a good friend of mine.  She's a teacher which works out awesome since I get all the breaks off.  Having three kids last year was not so bad.  Then her mother got pregnant.  Good for her!  Wait, that means I will have 2 extra kids next year.  She decides to go part time, sounds good to me.  I can definitely handle two extra kids for half a day.

But wait you say, you have 4 extra kids now.  I'm getting there...  So I have a nephew whose mom also works half days as a teacher.  She works the opposite hours of the other mom.  Would I be interested?  Yeah, I could definitely use the money.  But she is also pregnant...which means 2 more kids.  Do I want to do this to myself?  Apparently yes, since I am.  There is about an hour and half overlap at lunch time where I have 6 kids.  And it's not as bad as I thought it'd be.  Really.  But some days I do think maybe I am crazy.

Yesterday we had a good day.  Just me and the kids hanging out.  My daughter wanted me to get out my camera and take her picture, which I don't normally do when all the kids are over since it's always messy and I can't stand messy backgrounds, but I did it and I got some cute shots.  After all, I am supposed to be celebrating the less than perfect with this blog, so I better practice what I preach.

Here is my daughter doing her typical pose, hands behind back, fake smile.  Still cute, though.

This is a pic my daughter took of her doll, Katie.  There was something about how Katie looks just like her imaginery friend (who I can no longer remember the name of) and therefore if she takes Katie's picture I'll know what her other friend looks like.  O-kay.

She also had to take my picture.  Excuse the bad posture, please.

This is her teaching school to my nephew and her dolls.  My son is no longer invited to 'school'.  Apparently he does not meet standard entrance testing.  : )  Also known as "Mom, he's bothering me!".

The star student.  I guess the others needed a nap.

She holds that book like a pro!

After 'school' we played a little peekaboo.

And sat around looking cute.

Then we built towers with  blocks.  Here he is saying "Ta-da!".

No to be outdone by her baby brother, she builds a more intricate, superior (although shorter) tower.  She's also saying "Ta-da".

Then it was time for lunch, more kids to come, the bus, and then naptime.  Ah, what a life.

Big Pictures

So I was just perusing some other people's blogs and noticed one of them had said "click on any picture to see it bigger".  Cool, I thought, I wish mine did that.  So I came back over to my own blog and clicked on one of my pictures and woohoo! mine do it too!  Just wanted to let you all know in case you want to see life size pics of my kids.

So I Don't Forget

I've decided to start writing down all of the cute things my kids say so I don't forget.  Like the other day when my son was chasing us around the house in his monster costume (it's for Halloween and it took him a full week before he would even put it on, I think he was scared of it) and I was pretending to be scared of him, and everytime I would fake scream he would say, "Mommy, it's just cree-tend".  I love when he says that.  So cute!

And when I was pregnant with my son and my daughter was about 2 and a half she was feeling him kick inside my stomach one day and said "Mommy, I feel his shoe!".  Ahhh...so cute.

And she also used to count to ten like this..."one, two, three, four, five, chickens, eight, nine, ten".  I guess six, seven sounded like chickens to her.  She loves when I tell her how she used to do that.  She thinks it hilarious, and it was.

My son's new thing is referring to himself as "my".  As in, "My do it" or "My have to go pee" or you get the idea.

He used to call me "Ma"  when he was younger.  I was so sad the day he figured out how to say "Mommy" because I just really loved the way he said Ma.  He hasn't gone back since though.

Oh, and I babysit my nephew who is 2 and a half and he was telling me that his "Grandma Dorothy and Crapaw are coming over today".  I about peed my pants laughing at him say "Crapaw".  I didn't even understand what he meant at first until I realized he meant grandpa which is funny since he says grandma just fine. Did I mention he's one of those kids that'll keep repeating it if you ask him to?  It's great.  I had him say it, oh, about 20 times just so I could laugh.

That's all I can think of for now.  But don't be surprised if you see future posts with just one sentence on them in Kid-eeze.  Just so I don't forget.

Three

My baby is three.  I can't believe it.  It seems just yesterday I was at the hospital giving birth to him.  And the doctor was announcing he had red hair, and me in my labor stupor was thinking, huh?, she must be wrong, she's talking about someone else's baby, I cannot have a redhead.  And then she handed him to me and he had the biggest hands of any baby I have ever seen.  And they are my Dad's hands which I love because my Dad passed away and his hands were one of the things I loved about him and now here's my little boy with the same exact hands.
It took me about .0001 second to fall completely head over heels in love with this little guy.  He was a great baby with tons of personality and although it is going way too fast, I can't wait to see what kind of man he will grow up to become.
I am so happy that our family is complete.  Me, my love, my baby girl and my baby boy.  I couldn't ask for cooler people to hang out with every day.  I am so blessed in every way.  I hope to never, ever take even one little moment for granted as they are flying by me at lightning speed.
I love you, my sweet baby boy ~ Mommy

East Coast Flava

I spent my Labor Day Weekend at a wedding.  An East Coast Wedding.  I have to capitalize it because that's the type of wedding it was.  We stayed at the Hotel Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware.  Very swanky.  Very nice bathroom, I even took a bath which I never, ever do.  They had a bath menu.  You could order up a bubble bath, seriously.  What do you do, stand there while they fill the tub for you?  And then pay $25 for it?  Weird.  But, if I had boatloads of cash I might actually consider it.  I have no pictures of this swanky hotel though...why, you might ask?  Because I forgot to take my camera. Let's just say it's not a good idea to start packing an hour before you're supposed to leave for the airport.  We almost missed our flight, but luckily it was delayed due to needing new tires.  This is the last time you will see me type luckily and delayed flight in the same sentence.

The wedding was beautiful.  The reception even better.  We met up with a bunch of old friends there that we haven't seen in a while.  And can I just say that we are the best group of people to have at your wedding.  I mean, we should be hired out as wedding crashers - the kind that make your wedding more fun.  There was chanting of O-H-I-O and a version of Hang on Sloopy by a live 12 piece band.  And lots of crazy drunken dancing.  Not by me of course.  Well, maybe a little.  At least there's no pictures of that!

After the wedding, my husband and I stayed a couple extra days to hang out.  We went to Philadelphia and saw the Liberty Bell and Liberty Hall (I think, I can't remember the name).  I'm not really into history, so I'll just skip to the important part where we saw naked bikers.  Yes, naked people riding bicycles.  It was hilarious.  And some of those people should not ever be seen naked.  Ever.  They were just riding through the streets, some with body paint on, some with underwear, some stark naked, all looking pretty ridiculous.  It was awesome.

The next day we went to the beach.  It was fun, but we got a parking ticket.  Grrr.  Apparently on the east coast they have sneaky electronic parking meters where there is one meter for like 10 spots.  And if you don't park in front of one of them, you might just assume that parking is free.  Like us naive midwesterners did.  I'm trying to get over it...  But the beach was nice.  The only beaches I'd been to previously were South Carolina, Florida or California beaches.  So I really wanted to see what a northern beach was like.  It was nice.  They don't have shells, they have rocks.  I took a few.  And they have a more diverse population of people strolling the beach.  It was too cold to swim, so we didn't stay long.

The next day we left for home.  Let's just say I was packed plenty early and headed to the airport.  And I couldn't wait to see my kids who had stayed home with Grandma.  They were all shy when they saw us.  I was wanting lots of hugs, but my son was busy playing.  Guess he was just glad I was home and then went back to doing his thing.  We had a great weekend and I can't wait to do it again.  Which we will be doing in February when my husband is in another wedding, but this time on the West Coast.  An LA wedding.  Can't wait!

Kindergarten? How Did This Happen?

My baby girl started kindergarten yesterday. She was pretty excited about it. I was a nervous wreck thinking that she'd be a nervous wreck. But she wasn't. She was cool as a cucumber. She was ready to go with her backpack on. The bus pulled up and she gave me a kiss and didn't shed a tear. Neither did I. Not that I expected to. I'm not really the crying type. So if I had cried, that would've been kinda weird...but you always hear about moms crying when their babies go to school for the first time so I thought some mom instict would kick in and I'd get all blubbery, but I didn't. Oh well. I guess I'm not that mom.

Her brother tried to get on the bus with her. He really wants to ride the bus. I didn't have to drag him off or anything, he was just trying to get a peak, and maybe sneak past the busdriver and end up at school with her. He thinks he belongs there since that's where she is. He asked for her and the bus the whole time she was gone (the part he wasn't napping). I keep telling him he has to be 5 to ride the bus, but I don't really think it's getting through yet. Poor kid.

Here's some pics!

Hanging out in front of our house.

My little girl is growing up so fast.

I love this one.

Her backpack's as big as she is.

Waiting at the bus stop.

Getting on the bus. Her brother trying to sneak past.

Getting off the bus at the end of the day. Looks like she had fun!
