Hey Cuz

Cousin:  Someone whose parent is a sibling with your parent.  Okay, I have no idea how webster defines it, I just made that up.  Aren't cousins great though?  I mean, who else understands your family like they do?  The same grandparents, the same holiday traditions.  It's great to get together with a cousin because they just get certain things that others don't.  I babysit my niece and nephew which is great because my kids get to play with their cousins every day.  I have 6 first cousins, but I can't say that any of us were best friends when growing up.  Some of us only saw each other on holidays, but I still feel like we have a special connection.  There's just something fun about that cousin relationship.  I'm so glad that my kids get to experience it and that they all get along so well (for now).  My nephew and my son are only 3 months apart, so I hope they will always stay close.  I took the boys outside today while we waited for my daugher to get on the bus and the leaves were just so gorgeous that I had to go back inside and grab my camera.  Here's a peak at our afternoon...

The beautiful leaves!

My adorable nephew, he likes to have his picture taken.

When they figured out that they could throw the leaves it got alot more fun.  I was actually dropping them on their heads which they thought was great.

I just love that I didn't brush his hair today.  Gotta love little boy bedhead, nothing quite like it.

They are so funny together, and my nephew thinks everything my son does is hilarious.  Quite the ego boost for him, but then he walks around the house being silly all day thinking everyone should laugh at everything he does.

I brought the pumpkins out in the grass thinking they would sit still on them so I could get a pic of them together, but they turned it into some sort of pumpkin rolling contest.

Just another cute pic...

We played a little catch too.  He still sometimes forgets and calls this a "hitball" instead of a football. Pretty appropriate if you ask me!

Nothing better than laying in the leaves on a beautiful fall day!

Family ~ A Photo Shoot ~

I promise not to make my blog all about my little photo shoots.  After this one...  I wanted to do a family photo shoot since I've done babies and kids, and a wedding, but no families.  So when my friend said I could use her family as my guinea pigs it was perfect.  These little girls are also the ones I babysit for so it was even more perfect since I already adore them and they are comfortable with me.  Some things I learned on this shoot:
 1.  Families are much harder to shoot since there are more people.

2.  Someone is always blinking, therefore you must take tons of pictures of each pose.

3.  Toddlers don't last long in each pose.

4.  There will be tears.

5.  There will be silly smiles.

6.  There will be sweet moments.

7.  It will take you at least 10 frames to get this shot.

8.  Some of your favorite pictures will be ones in which they aren't looking.

9.  It will take you 20 frames and crazy baby talk to get this shot.

10.  Momma's with their babies...sigh.

11.  You will get that picture that you love, but you can't explain why.

Sweet Baby Boy ~ A Photo Shoot ~

An old friend of mine asked me to take some photos of his new baby, so of course I jumped at the chance.  First of all, I adore newborn babies.  They are just so tiny.  Every time I see one, I forget how tiny they are even though I just saw one a couple months ago.  They really are little miracles.  Second, I'm trying to build up a portfolio for when I actually start this photography thing for real.  Sounded like a perfect deal to me.  I was in for a surprise with this little guy who was just wide awake the whole time.  I didn't quite know what to do...I did learn that you cannot 'pose' an infant who is awake.  Keep the cute poses for the sleeping ones.  Even though I didn't get to do all the poses and cute things I had planned in my head, I got some great shots that I wouldn't even have thought to have done otherwise.  Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did taking them!

I just love his expression in this one.  Priceless.
Okay, so he did sleep for about a minute when I first got there...
I like his hands in this one.
Look how tiny he looks compared to his dad's hand!
This pose was her idea and I love it.
I think this is my favorite.  It really captures the love.
Baby feet!

Eight Years ~ An Eternity or the Blink of an Eye ~

Yesterday was my eighth wedding anniversary.  I know what your thinking, I don't look old enough to have been married that long!  But really, I have.  And we dated for 2 years before we got married, so we've been a couple for ten years now.  That sounds crazy!  Ten years used to seem like an eternity.  Granted, before I met my husband, dating anyone longer than 10 months was an eternity for me.  I never could seem to stick with someone for long.  After a few months everything they did would start to bother me.  They would laugh too loud, or say stupid things, or wear stupid clothes.  Then, I would just decide I couldn't bother with them anymore and they were history.  Then I met my husband.  He was wearing these navy and white plaid / checkered shorts and this was way before wearing anything like that was cool.  And he had a navy polo shirt on and these crazy green suede adidas soccer shoes.  And he had the most amazing blue eyes I have ever seen.  He had that aura about him that made him seem cool.  In my eyes he was the coolest guy I had ever hung out with.  So sure of himself.  So confident in his offbeat ways.  He listened to music I had never heard of and he went to concerts all the time and I pretty much thought he could do no wrong.  And he had such a great phone voice.  I used to love talking to him on the phone for hours just to listen to his voice.  So after I talked to him about 4 nights in a row and after we went on 2 dates, I decided he was "the one".  I just knew it in my gut.  Just like people always said...when you know, you just know.  I never have gotten sick of him.  And even when he laughs too loud, or says stupid things, or wears stupid clothes it never bothers me.  Because he's the one.  My til death do us part.  I love him.

Practice Makes Perfect

I decided to do a photo shoot of my kids over the weekend.  After all, they are adorable, mostly willing subjects.  It gives me lots of practice for when I start doing this stuff for real.  Here's a few of my favorites.  Forgive me for posting so many...I have a lot of favorites.  I guess that happens when you use your own kids as your subjects.
